Municipality and Palestinian Investment Fund Sign Cooperation Agreement
Mayor of
Hebron, Mr. Taysir Abu Sneineh and Chairman of Palestinian Investment Fund (PIF),
Mr. Mohammed Mustafa, have signed a cooperation agreement on Tuesday, May 22nd
2018; to implement the project of building PV solar energy systems on schools' rooftops
located within Hebron Electric Power Company's Concession Area.
Hebron
Governor, Mr. Kamel Hmaid, HEPCo General Manager, Eng. A Raof El-Sheikh and
members of City Council have attended the agreement signing ceremony.
Mr. Abu Sneineh
said that the project targets 36 schools in Hebron and 6 schools in Halhul,
where a solar system will be installed on their roofs –because they are technically
suitable for this- with a capacity of about 60 kilowatts.
He added that this
project will cost about 4 million dollars, where a development company –located
in Hebron- will be established to build PV solar systems, and to operate and
maintain these systems in cooperation with HEPCo teams.
Eng. A Raof
El-Sheikh said that this project electrical capacity is about 3 MW, and it will
reduce cost of electricity
bills for schools at about 600,000 ILS per year.
Mr. Mohammed Mustafa said that 'PIF' established "Masader Co." to lead an investment program in energy sector of 2.2 billion US dollars, adding that "Masader" is implementing the "Noor Palestine" solar energy program to produce 200 MW of electricity from solar energy over 8 years, pointing out that Hebron Municipality is the first municipality in the country to sign such an agreement.
